Bitter divisions: Over Srebrenica massacre persist 20 years later
SREBRENICA, Bosnia-Herzegovina — As thousands of survivors, victims' relatives and dignitaries descend on this city Saturday to mark the 20th anniversary of the massacre of 8,000 Bosnians, divisions remain as deep and bitter as ever over what happened on this killing field.Russia this week vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution that would have condemned the massacre by Serbian troops as "genocide." The resolution, backed by Britain, urged all sides to accept the term as a significant step toward reconciliation between Serbs and Bosnian Muslims. The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Netherlands officially deemed the tragedy a genocide in 2004.
