 NEW DELHI — Geeta Dutta, who runs a roadside tea shop in the suburb of Noida, faces a dilemma: Pay her rent and children's tuition by standing in long lines at the ATM — praying it doesn't run out of cash — or work at her stall.

It's a familiar choice in India these days, after the prime minister's drastic demonetization program wiped out most of the paper currency Indians use to pay for necessities.
