Bio:

Mai Shams El-Din is a reporter based in Cairo since 2010. She mainly workes for local English language publications like Egypt Independent and Daily News Egypt, and has contributed to BBC World, Al-Jazeera, McClatchy Newspaper, Global Post and Al-Fanar Media. She recently co-founded Mada Masr, an independent and progressive online news platform from Egypt. She writes extensively on politics, human rights and education. She graduated with a journalism degree from the American University in Cairo and speaks fluent Arabic and English.
